April Set To Record Record Flight Levels, With The Canary Islands Prooving Popular.

Airline Flight capacity is set to hit record levels by the end of this month, according to new figures released by OAG, a data and analysis provider for the aviation industry.

The report showed that airlines around the world will provide 317.4 million seats to passengers during the month of April in 2011. This figure is 5 per cent higher than at the same time in 2010 and represents the highest capacity ever provided by the industry.

Spain was said to be the most popular destination for Brits, with the ever-popular Costa del Sol and the Canary Islands attracting large throngs of holidaymakers. Fuerteventura has seen the largest increase in visitors compared with recent years because of many tourist choosing the Canaries rather than north african countries so good bargains were said to be had in destinations such as Egypt and Tunisia.

Easter is always a busy travel time for Britons, but next Friday is a public holiday to mark the Royal wedding — and, according to reseach, it appears many Britons would rather take an overseas vacation than stay in the U.K. to watch it.

Tourism To Canaries Rises After Egypt, Tunisia Unrest

The number of foreign visitors to Spain's Canary Islands soared in February according to official data, as sunseekers shunned rival resorts in Egypt and Tunisia because of anti-government uprisings there. But the increas in numbers cannot be totallyput down to the middle east unrest. The President of the Canary Islands’ Parliament said the prospects for the summer season were looking positive and added that bookings for holidays were up by 14 per cent which was an honest reflection of the hard work that has been put in by local authorities to promote what the Islands had to offer.


According to the latest figures nearly three million people went through Canary Islands’ airports, which is an impressive leap of 13.1% on last year. Tenerife, Gran Canaria and Lanzarote are all holding their own in the popularity stakes but it is Fuerteventura that has seen the biggest increase with passenger numbers up a staggering 32.9%. This figure has beaten South Tenerife and Gran Canaria who both nevertheless, saw satisfying increases of 12.2% and 10.8%. It is also wise to remember that this is very early on in the tourism season so if figures are this high at this time of year it looks as though it could be a bumper summer for the Canarian Islands.

96% Of Tourists Will Visit Fuerteventura Again

The Cabildo has published its survey findings in the Tourism Satisfaction Index for Fuerteventura. The survey was carried out between the 22nd February and the 7th March and as during other surveys in earlier seasons the main reason given for visiting the island was the great climate we enjoy and the enviroment characteristics.
The average stay was eleven nights using 4 to 5 star hotels for 53% of tourists. 60% of travellers to Fuerteventura where couples and 14.6% where family holidays.
96% of tourists said they would choose Fuerteventura again for a holiday and 98% would recomend the island to friends and family. Half the people surveyed where not first time visitors to Fuerteventura.
